Foreign Ministers of Serbia and Ghana Meet in Belgrade

The interlocutors reflected on the historic role of the founders of the Non-Aligned Movement, among them Kwame Nkrumah, the first President of independent Ghana, as well as on the values and principles upon which the Movement was founded. Minister Đurić emphasised that Serbia continues to uphold in its foreign policy the principles of sovereignty, the equality of states, mutual respect and independence in the conduct of foreign policy.

Đurić expressed his satisfaction with the intensification of political dialogue between Serbia and Ghana, recalling his official visit to Accra last year, which provided additional impetus to the development of bilateral relations and opened up opportunities for translating cooperation into concrete initiatives across a range of areas.

The interlocutors agreed that the traditionally friendly relations between Serbia and Ghana provide a strong foundation for further strengthening Serbia’s presence and positioning on the African continent, as well as for deepening cooperation with African partners on the basis of mutual respect and mutual interest.

Minister Đurić emphasised that the high level of political relations should be matched by stronger economic cooperation and closer ties between the economies of the two countries. In this context, the need to translate existing potential into concrete projects and new business partnerships was highlighted.

During the talks, the interlocutors also noted that there is scope to further strengthen the legal framework underpinning cooperation between Serbia and Ghana, thereby creating additional institutional conditions for the development of relations in areas of common interest.

The interlocutors also agreed to intensify cooperation between the diplomatic academies of the two countries through the exchange of experience and expertise and the organisation of joint activities. On this occasion, Minister Đurić recalled that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Serbia will organise a seminar for young diplomats from Non-Aligned Movement member states in the coming period, emphasising Serbia’s commitment to continuing to invest in connecting new generations of diplomats and building long-term partnerships.

The Serbian Foreign Minister took the opportunity to once again thank Ghana for its support for the preservation of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Republic of Serbia, stressing that the issue of Kosovo and Metohija remains one of Serbia’s most important national and state issues. Đurić reiterated that Serbia will continue to safeguard its interests through diplomatic means, while remaining firmly committed to upholding international law and the Charter of the United Nations.

Minister Đurić welcomed Ghana’s decision to participate in the Specialised Expo 2027 in Belgrade, noting that the event will provide another important opportunity to further strengthen ties between the two countries, showcase their economic potential and establish new contacts.
